I have been painting and drawing since childhood, finding it the most satisfying way to express what is meaningful to me. Most of my paintings are inspired by landscapes that surround me here in New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as ones I observe when traveling.
I work in oils, pastels and monotype printmaking: I find all of these useful vehicles to do mark making and image making. My work is exploratory in impressionist, tonalist and abstract genres. I also do still life and some figurative work. By using careful composition, creating a clear foreground and background, and exploring color and texture, I strive to create a sense of place that the viewer can enter and experience.
"To move, to be moved, is to live... The finest art, like all else finest in Life, is founded in Love. The presence or absence and the amount and quality of the love embodied in any work of art is the sure guide to its value and permanence."
by William L. Lathrop (1859-1939), American Tonalist Painter.

"Marcie Maynard brings her understanding of Tonalism and American Impressionism to bear on her wonderfully evocative paintings of the New England landscape." Guy Russell
"We've known Marcie for many years and by living with her wonderful paintings we get to enjoy the heart and soul of her as an artist." Doug and Marylou Robinson
"We love the colors and subtle sophistication of the paintings. Our home is a blend of new and old and these paintings felt like they complimented the old elements of our home while also speaking to our more contemporary tastes." Hannah Renyi
"While Marcie's work transcends specific locale, when I look at her painting it reminds me of the beauty of New England. She captures the mood and color perfectly. I always receive compliments on her work whenever I have guests over at my house - where I have it proudly displayed over the mantle in my living room. Every time I look at it, it gives me a sense of nostalgia over where I would like to be." Pascale N. Graham
